Separate payment events from access decisions
A payment provider confirms a transaction; your application decides whether the account can watch. Persist provider events, validate their signatures and let a single subscription service calculate the current entitlement.
Design for the unhappy paths
Interrupted payments, duplicate callbacks, refunds and expired renewals are normal events. Idempotent webhook handling prevents one event from creating multiple subscriptions or conflicting account states.
Protect media at the edge
Signed CDN URLs and short-lived access checks keep protected media from becoming a permanently shareable file URL. The experience should be smooth for a valid subscriber and closed for everyone else.
Make state visible to support teams
An admin view that shows plan, renewal date, provider reference and recent events makes customer support faster and less risky.
Measure before you optimise
Track the handoffs that matter: checkout started, payment confirmed, entitlement granted and playback started. That reveals where the actual friction sits.
